Finding a tradesperson, posting a task, paying, what happens if something goes wrong.
- Does HeroTasker cost me anything as a customer?
- No. Posting a task is free, browsing the contractor directory is free, and there’s no booking fee added to anything you agree with the tradesperson. Money flows directly from you to them; HeroTasker is never in the payment loop.
- How do I find the right tradesperson?
- Two paths. Search:from the home page, pick a trade and a postcode; you’ll see verified tradespeople ranked by distance. Tap a profile, read what they do, reveal the phone, call them direct. Post a task: describe the job, set a budget; nearby tradespeople offer to take it on and you pick the one you like best.
- When does my phone number get shared?
- Only when you accept a tradesperson’s offer on a task you posted. Browsing contractor profiles and revealing their phone does not share yours. The reveal is one-way — they show you theirs, you decide whether to call.
- Can I cancel a task after posting?
- Yes — until a tradesperson’s offer is accepted. Once accepted, cancel the offer first (the contractor is notified), then cancel the task. Disputes after acceptance are handled by admin review; see the cancellation policy.
- What if the job goes wrong?
- When the tradesperson marks the job complete, you’ll be prompted to confirm or dispute. Disputing it triggers an admin review; the outcome is recorded permanently on the task and the contractor’s record. We can’t force a tradesperson to refund you (we never take the money in the first place), but we keep persistent bad actors out of the marketplace.
- Do you cover my area?
- We’re UK-wide. Coverage is densest in cities + suburbs (more tradespeople list there); rural areas may have fewer matches. Try a partial-postcode search (e.g.
SW1) to widen the radius if the full postcode is thin.
For tradespeople

- Is HeroTasker actually free for tradespeople?
- Yes — free in v2. No monthly fee, no per-lead fee, no commission. We don’t take a cut because money flows directly from the customer to you; we’re never in the payment loop. Future paid tiers (e.g. priority placement) will be opt-in and additive, not a tax on the basic flow.
- How does search ranking work?
- Distance from the customer’s postcode (closer = higher), then recency of activity. No paid bumps, no premium tiers. Cover more trades and stay active and you’ll rank better. Full detail on the for tradespeople page.
- Who sees my phone number?
- Customers who explicitly tap “Reveal phone number” on your profile (which we count + show on your dashboard), and customers whose offer you’ve accepted. Anonymous casual browsers never see your number.
- How do I get paid?
- Direct from the customer — cash, bank transfer, card reader, whatever you normally use. HeroTasker doesn’t handle payments and never takes a cut.
- How do job alerts work?
- You set the trades + postcode area you want alerts for. We send a single daily digest at 08:00 of any new matching jobs in the previous 24h. No per-job pings; the digest is the only alert. Manage alerts under Account → Alerts.
- Can I edit or withdraw a bid?
- Yes — until the customer accepts. Once accepted, the offer is locked and the chat opens. Withdrawal before acceptance is one click on the offer card.
- Do I need Gas Safe / NICEIC / specific insurance?
- Whatever the law requires for your trade in the UK — same as anywhere else. We don’t verify credentials at signup, but customers can ask in the questions thread before accepting; if you claim certifications you don’t hold, you’re removed and the record kept.
- Can I be on HeroTasker AND other platforms?
- Yes. No exclusivity clause. List wherever you like; use HeroTasker for the leads it produces.

- Who runs HeroTasker?
- A small UK team building the kind of trades-finder we wanted to use ourselves. Plainspoken, no jargon, no inflated claims. We live in the UK and the product is UK-only.
- How do you make money if it’s free?
- Right now: we don’t. We’re in v2, focused on getting the basic loop right + earning trust on both sides of the marketplace. Future revenue is likely opt-in: priority placement for trades that want it, paid features that don’t change the core free-to-use guarantee. We will never silently introduce a commission on the existing flow.
- What do you do with my data?
- The minimum needed to run the marketplace. We don’t sell contact details, we don’t share data with advertisers, we don’t profile users for retargeting. Full detail in our privacy policy.
- Are you GDPR compliant?
- Yes. UK GDPR applies (since we operate in the UK). You can request a full data export from Account → Data, deactivate or delete your account, and ask us to forget you entirely (we retain only the minimum required for legal compliance — e.g. dispute audit trails).
